University of Alabama graduate posing with Big Al mascot in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa Alabama

Okay listen. If you’re graduating from the University of Alabama, this is your sign to actually plan your grad session instead of just showing up with your cap and hoping for the best.

We’re not doing stiff, awkward, “stand and smile” energy. We’re doing joyful, confident, main-character-on-the-Quad energy.

Here’s exactly how to prep so your session feels fun, smooth, and very you.

What to Bring (Don’t Skip This Part)

Your Shaker

I don’t care if you “feel awkward.” Bring the shaker. The movement. The school spirit. The iconic Bama energy. It makes your photos feel alive instead of posed.

Trust me on this one.

Confetti (Biodegradable Please)

Confetti photos on the Walk of Champions? Elite.

But we’re using biodegradable because we love this campus and we’re not trying to leave it looking crazy. Also — bring more than one pack. It always takes more than you think to get the perfect toss.

Champagne

Hot take: the price of the bottle does not matter.

It can be $12. It can be $40. It photographs the exact same. What matters is the pop + your reaction. And yes, I will fully coach you through how to do it without spraying yourself in the face.

Comfy Shoes

We walk. A lot.

If you’re wearing heels, bring slippers or sneakers to change into between spots. The sidewalks are not forgiving and I refuse to have you limping by location three.

Mini Touch-Up Kit

Lip gloss. Powder. Bobby pins. Brush.

Alabama humidity likes to humble us. We come prepared.

Outfit Changes = More Variety

I always recommend at least two outfits. Your cap and gown, obviously, and then something that feels like you. A white dress is classic, but I also love a game day look, something tied to your major, or just an outfit that makes you feel confident.

If you want to bring a third look, go for it. More outfits = more content for Instagram, announcements, LinkedIn, your mom’s Facebook… you get it.

Sunrise or Sunset?

Let’s break it down.

Sunrise

Sunrise sessions are honestly underrated. The campus feels calm, the light is soft and glowy, and you don’t have a crowd watching you throw confetti. If you want clean, iconic shots without a million people in the background, sunrise is such a good option.

Sunset

Golden hour gives you that warm, dreamy light that just feels celebratory. It’s fun, it’s glowy, it’s very “we did it.” Just know that sunset sessions during grad season book fast, so plan ahead.

Movement > Stiff Posing

TThe best photos usually aren’t the perfectly posed ones. They’re the ones where you’re walking across the Quad, twirling your dress, shaking your shaker, or popping champagne.

If you feel awkward at first, that’s completely normal. It’s my job to guide you so nothing feels forced.

Make It Personal

Bring your stoles, cords, sorority or fraternity pieces, a jersey, or even your best friend for a few shots. Four years at the University of Alabama deserves more than just one smiling cap-and-gown photo. This is a full-circle moment.

Graduation season in Tuscaloosa is one of my favorite times of the year. The energy is unmatched, everyone’s a little emotional and a little excited, and it just feels special.

If you’re planning your University of Alabama grad session, let’s make it joyful, intentional, and completely you.

Now go order the confetti.
